Hi I posted under the thread "identify my mixed dog breed" as my dog looks alot like the dog in the photo on that thread. I was told he is a Lab/GSD mixed with something smaller as he weighs about 49lbs and is 9months old. He is beigy tan/smooth coated. His paw pads are black and around his mouth is black and he has black ringing his eyes like eyeliner. His ears are mostly down but sometimes one pricks up. His tail curls over his back abit when he is alert. He seems like a nice dog, submissive and friendly with dogs/people. A family member had saved him from being gassed at a WV shelter several months ago and recently had him neutered. Its a hardship for him to keep him and afford training etc so he would like me to take him. I had decided to only adopt a homeless/needy dog so I feel abit guilty and my other option had been to adopt a greyhound as I know they are in great need. However, I must admit that this way it takes alot of the stress out of it all for me. Also, he does hump occasionally,s this something he will outgrow? My beloved male dog died recently but he never did this. Thanks for your help

Have you had him neutered yet? Sometime humping is a dominance issue.

Yes, sorry thought I wrote that but yes he was neutered last month. He doesn't seem like a dominant type. Btw I managed to upload a photo on the gallery of this site and hope it comes thru with this post

I definatley see lab in him, the other breed elludes me at the moment- he's not pure lab. I'm not great at the "guess the mix" game. Others are much better than me.

As for the humping, that should go away with time since he was recently altered. When he does it, just walk away. Don't say anything or put up a fuss. You want the behavior to extinguish itself. Redirecting this "arousal" to something else is fine as well, but I just find walking away is easier.

In my opinion a dog in need of a good loving home that kind of falls into your lap is just as needy as any other dog that needs a home. Enjoy your new partner in life. True friends are seldom that easy to find!
