My puppy is 5 months old and I am feeding her Science Diet, ( changing to Innova soon) and she does get about a tablespoon of raw turkey everyday and carrots and pears. She gets Wellness treats made of lamb and chicken. She got spayed on 9-21-06. She had her puppy shots on 8-22 DHLPP 1st, 9-21 DHLPP 2nd, and her rabies shot on 8-22. She was just treated for a UTI on 9-15 and was given the medication Clavamox Drops 62.5mg/ml. She was also wormed at that time and was given Canine Drontal Plus 68 mg. Just to make sure that the UTI was gone I took in another urine test yesterday and her vet said that they had to send it in to do a culture because it had alot of bacteria in it. Could any of this be because of her vaccinations , her surgery, or what I am feeding her? You told me about the cranberry concentrate and the d-mannose, would these still apply now that the bacteria has shown up? Also would you recommend using one or the other or both and if not both which do you recommend to use and how much do I give her?

I would definitely switch her to something better than Science Diet. You mentioned Innova- try the Evo, it's great especially for a puppy. Other good brands to try would be Merrick, Nature's Variety, Honest Kitchen. You can definitely switch between brands, mix them together, just whatever the puppy likes. I'm not sure about the dosage of cranberry. I'm sure you could do the same thing I do with my girls' multivitamins. My 50 lb. girl gets a whole tablet, my 20 lb. girl gets half... just adjust based on the weight, and it's not like you're going to poison the puppy if you give a little too much cranberry. Something else, maybe, but not cranberry. Do try to minimize vaccines. Your puppy doesn't need all those shots. Parvo at three months, distemper at four months, and rabies at one year and two years is enough. It's not like somebody's going to go door to door making sure every dog in town is vaccinated against rabies. If you must vaccinate regularly for it, get the three year version.

home of old lady Lucy (boxer/lab/garbage disposal), pretty girl Fancy (beagle), the rats- Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Pachebel, Fillmore, and Norbert, and the mice- Vivaldi, Brahms, Schubert, Bartok, Rasputin, Johann, Chaminade, Dorothy, Glenda, and Em... I really ought to stop getting more rodents every time I go out, huh?
