leash training

itobean Nov 08, 2006 04:04 PM

Hello everyone!!

I've decided to take action - it's time for my "kids" to be leash trained. The boys are soon to be 4 and my little girl is 3. They have a doggy door so they go in and out as they please so we've never had to walk them.

I need as many helpful hints as I can get!! They all get sooo excited when they know they get to go for a walk and it's a nuisance to get one at a time out the door. I've resorted to tricking the other two and putting the other one in the garage that is going for a walk. I've tried being stern with them but they are all so excited that they don't hear me!!

Now for - on the leash. Nic tends to have panic attacks. He'll be walking fine and then all of a sudden he'll start crying and try to jump in my arms. (I can't pinpoint what sets him off. It won't be loud, no other people/dogs around) Which is not pleasant for either one of us. Wundt - he's just a little snot!! He will pull till he's choking and won't listen to me. He doesn't do well with the "sit" command because he has bad back hips and I don't want to push down on his butt. Any suggestions????

Lexi, my little girl is great on the leash. So I'm not worried about her.

HELP!!

Becky

A good class, and you might want to start your training with a head halter. I have articles on training classes and how to choose a good one, and on Head Halters, at the link below my signature. It's a free site with no advertising, and you don't have to register to read things there.
