Joint Supplement?

sarasmushu Nov 26, 2006 08:39 PM

I have 3 dogs a 2 yr old Black Lab, a 8ish Yr old Min pin and a 3 yr old Jack russell mix.

My Lab was Recently Dignoised with Mild Hip Displsia. Currently Just Treating with buffered asprin when needed. Dignoised Nov 21, 2006

The Jack Russell Decided he couldn't be out done by the Lab so he tore some cartilage in his Right hind, we are also in the process of ruling out an ACL Tear. He Already has pins holding his left hind together and is very stiff in that leg. he's currently Taking Previcox in the AM. Only Been on it since Nov 22, 2006.

My Min Pin has a Neck injury unknown orgin. He tends to throw it out like we would thyrow our backs out. he sees a Chiropractor and an acupuncturist. Takes Tramadol Daily for it. has been taking it for roughly about 2 yrs.

My Vet advised me to put them all on a Joint supplement and I have no Idea where to start. She did tell me what I should be looking for in one but I can't Remember for the life of me what I should all be looking for. I did talk to a Few of my Equine Friends and they all seem to be pointing me towards Four Flex. I did find out that they do make a Canine formula.
Any suggestions on a good Joint supplement?

As a joint supplement, I use a product called Longlife Pet Supplement, which I have found to work better than Cosequin or chondroitin. You can find this on the Internet. I wouldn't give an anti-inflammatory on an ongoing basis, as you are asking for trouble. Cod liver oil added to the food will work better. For the Jack Russell with the knee problem, try a homeopathic formulation called Connective Tissue Tonic. Also consider the diet. The dogs should be getting goodly amounts of fresh meat, and you might want to give the Lab gelatin as a supplement.
