Lyme Disease

TeamGenji Nov 30, 2006 10:58 AM

My 10-year old Golden Retriever mix was diagnosed with lyme disease. Last week she yelped quickly and didn't put her weight on her left front paw and just last night she did the same thing. It seemed her left front wrist was bothering her. This morning I was sent home with antibiotics, but I really don't want to put her on it.

I read Dr. Tobin's article about lyme disease and Ledum, and I'd like to try it instead of antibiotics. I don't know anything about homeopathy. Can I just go buy Ledum 1M and start giving it to her three times a day for three days? Also are there any supplements to support her immune system to fight back the disease?

Thank you very much in advance.

You can order Ledum 1m from a homeopathic pharmacy and give it 3 times a day for 3 days. But from your description I am not sure your dog has Lyme disease if the only symptoms are that her left front foot hurt once 1 week ago and again yesterday. I usually see a dog favoring one leg, most likely one of the front legs, for one day, and then not wanting to move the following days, often withlethargy, inappetance and fever. It certainly won't hurt to try the Ledum.

Thank you so much for your prompt response.

Other than that she's yelped twice, she seems very normal. She has been eating very well, acting normal (always ready for fun activites), and is not favoring any leg. I just came back with her from a quick afternoon walk & run, and she was fine (no limping or anything).

But I will try Ledum because I did find a few ticks on her recently.

Personally I would treat any symptomatic lyme case with high doses of doxy for an extended period time, and then follow up with homeopathic treatment since abx treatment will not cure lyme, only knock it into submission. Once lyme gets out of control, it's extremely difficult to manage.
