My 6 month old Chihuahua Andre has developed some kind of irritation around his mouth. It started looking like a scratch (I assumed his brother bit him) but it has been spreading and swelling more over the last few days, now almost down to his chin. I have applied warm compresses to it and put on a little bactroderm ointment I had handy. What could this be? It looks like little red spots/scabs and is all swollen. I think it might be an allergy but I'm not sure. Any thoughts on what I can do for him until our vet opens on Monday?

It may be a reaction to something he ate, or even to the food bowl itself. If you feed him from a plastic bowl, switch to glass, ceramic, or stainless steel. ZYou might also want to give him some benedril until your vet can evaluate him.
