Grape Seed Extract

TeamGenji Dec 10, 2006 09:37 PM

I have read somewhere that grape seed extract is not good for dogs because it's going to shut the kidneys down. Is that right?

Grapes and raisins, in a number of cases , have apparently led to kidney failure in some dogs. There has been no evidence that grape seed extract might also do this. However, since this occurs in very few dogs, and many dogs eat grapes and raisins, or did so in the past, and only a few were affected, I suspect there is a genetic component involved.
to be on the safe side, if you are using grape seed extract, you might consider switching to pycnogenol, made from pine bark, which has the same active components without any other components from grapes.
