flaky dull coat

carmeny Dec 12, 2006 01:02 PM

My sister's dog, a Britany Spaniel, got his hair cut. A day later his coat was very dry and dull and he had really bad flaky patches - the vet checked his thyroid because she felt that was a common symptom. Ripley had a full checkup and blood work done and everything was normal. The vet felt that he may have had an allergic reaction to the soap the groomer used.

It is two months later and although the flaking isn't quite as bad - he still has a very dull, dry coat. Is there anything you can safely apply to the coat or can you give him anything in his food (like an oil of somekind) that could improve his coat. Thank you!

Put the dog on a good quality diet, preferably one with raw meat. Add 1 tsp cod liver oil twice a day.
