Thining hair on sides

abukuchick Dec 12, 2006 06:51 PM

I have two six month old littermate boys. They have both been changing as they grow but I've noticed something new about Jack B. His coat has always been finer than Andre's, he feels smoother and the hair itself is thinner than his brother's. Lately it seems that his hair on his sides has been thinning out. His belly and throat are almost totally hairless (he has always had little hair on belly/throat) but now it's creeping up higher and I can see the slight gaps in the hair. He doesn't have any allergies and is very healthy. He doesn't seem to scratch a lot or have any skin issues that I can see. I was just wondering if this was normal for a puppy his age. His brother's coat has been changing a little, but mainly in color (he was almost all white and is now covered with fawn ticking). Any thoughts on this? I think he'll be colder if this keeps up, at least they both have some clothes!

PS-Is there a difference between a "short hair" and a "smooth coat"? If so, I'd say that I have one of each!

This may be genetic, in which case nothing will help much, but in case it isn't, there are some things to try. First, have a scraping done, to see if mites are causing this. Second, put them on a diet of raw meat and bone, and add cod liver oil to the food at each meal. You might also ask the breeder if she has ever encountered this problem before.
