Looking for a Good home

Tawn009 Dec 12, 2006 10:47 PM

Hi

sMy Brother has a Dobe About 7 Years old..
he just recently attacked my sister in law out of the blue..
We have had no Problems with him till this happen.. he has been a great dog..
I have had the dog for 10 days at my house due to a law in Missouri any dog that attacks or bits anyone is to be in a 10 day Quarentine.. he has just made the 10 day Quarentine
and my brother would now like to find a good home for him.. my sister in law can not handle him coming back into the house, he has scared her and she is afraid of it happening again..

we have been told from numerous people to have him put down but my sister in law would like to try to find a good home for him.. she is scared of him but knows he is a good dog she is a huge dog lover and loved him very much..
i am putting a call out to all the doberman lovers on this site to see what any of you think and if anyone would like him if you are anywhere within the st louis area and surroundings.. or if you know of anyone who would love to have him. but we do want everyone to know he is a biter and has attacked someone..
please email me at tmyers2509@yahoo.com and put in subject Doberman

thank you for anything you can do for him..
Tanya

Before you ask for someone to adopt him you should really explain why the dog bit her. Was she just sitting there? Was she near his food? ect..

She was just sitting there watching tv. and he climbed in the chair next to her. the next thing she knew he was attacking her..
she did nothing but was sitting there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the vet who raises dobes said it was probably a dominece thing. he was telling her who was boss..
she is the one in the house who was the most lenient with him..
he is a good dog i have had him in my house since dec 8th and have had no trouble but i can't keep him due to my job i travel too much.. not at home enough to keep him.. he needs a single person or couple with no kid and no dogs.. He has to have the sole attention...
this is what the vet has said..

You may want to contact a local or national doberman rescue organization to help you place this dog.

I'd check out this link:

www.dpca.org/Rescue/

They will have the resources to help you. This site is not a rescue site.

I agree! A doberman rescue will be an important resource.

You can talk to Doberman rescue for ideas, but any dog with a bite history CANNOT be rehomed by Doberman Rescue - liability. Truthfully, a 7 year old dog with a bite history is most likely not going to find a new home.......... and the kind of people willing to take a dog like that are very often NOT the kind of home you want to send a dog to. People looking for a dog to bait pitbulls with etc.... will lie and talk a good talk. Do not rehome a dog to anyone without checking them out - including a home visit, and a vet reference check.

My advice would be to either keep the dog yourself, or make the very hard decision to put him down. Before doing any of this, has the dog been checked out by a vet?? Low thyroid is common in Dobermans, and can cause aggression. You may want to have a thyroid panel done, and if his thyroid is low, the medication is very inexpensive. Then maybe the original home would take him back. I have a hard time seeing a 7 year old dog all the sudden attacking someone they have lived with for a long time without some kind of medical issue being at the root cause. Instead of looking at unwarrented aggression in a dog that age, look to medical issues first.
