Emma has a parasite

carmeny Dec 18, 2006 07:00 PM

The dog I am fostering from the SPCA went to the vet today as the diarhea had not cleared up. They found something called Cochsidia and she is being treated with antibiotics. I love my vet $3.65 for 10 days of antibiotics! Hopefully this will clear everything up.

I'll have to look that up after work. You're a good mommy and so is your vet!! Hope things clear up for your girl.

Emma actually went to the bathroom today and it was normal! No more diarhea (thank god!). Her kennel has been dry the last two nights and then today she peed and pooped and they were both normal so I am very happy. She is eating really well again and very playful. I am very relieved. Like my husband says, we can't save them all, but we can try! We own a restaurant in town and have paired up with our local feed supplier to raise money for the spca in the month of December. This is our first time fostering so I am not sure how I will do when it is time to give them back for adoption. I am actually already working on finding them their forever homes. Wish me luck!

We live in a smaller city (16,000 pop) and we have 2 vets in town. We choose to make the 25 minute drive (which isn't long is it) to another vet out of town. It is a husband and wife and another vet part time (she works very closely with the spca) so they are very good, don't overcharge, do not try to sell you any food or anything. I really like them - Emma had an exam, urine test, fecal matter test, a shot of antibiotic, got pills for 10 days and it was $70.00 including tax. In town it would have been at least double.

Merry Christmas!

GEEZ!! Just the other day I paid $20 for antibiotics for two 1 lb. rats!!!

I'm glad they figured out what the problem was and she's getting treatment... seems like my animals along with everybody else's are getting sick! I hate it when they are sick, it's just terrible. I hope she gets better very soon.
