Is anyone here involved in a serious dog breeding program - excluding conformation.

I'm interested in what I consider responsible breeding programs. To my mind, one can only be breeding dogs responsibly if one is selecting for performance in an arena where there is serious competition (by serious I mean the level of competion AND the quantity of it). Also, a necessary component of serious competition is objective evaluation - rather than opinion based judging.

I'm interested in people's records of success and the possible correlation between the number of individuals bred and the degree of improvement in the average specimen within a breeding population.

I'm not interested in any specific breeds. I'm starting a project to explore the degree to which one can successfully selectively breed for ability to perform extremely complicated and taxing tasks - and how the endeavor to do so might be argued to lend dignity to the existence of dogs in today's world.
