Peeing in water dish

carmeny Dec 29, 2006 07:28 PM

So my foster girls have taken to peeing directly in their water dish. The one goes and with precise aim, pees right into the water as if it were a toilet. The other follows close behind her. Apart from being really gross (I change it right after and clean the bowl!) what would make them do this. I have had them for 2 1/2 weeks. Emma, who generally starts it all, even made a pee into her food dish last night - just a tinkle - and then kept eating. I took it away from her and emptied out the food and cleaned the dish. Is she trying to establish territory making it "her" water dish or "her" food dish? If anyone has ideas on how to correct this, I am open to suggestions!

Where do I put the vinegar - around the rim of the bowls? Thanks for the idea!

Experiment--all sorts of things can work, but right on the urine is ideal. Also, try feeding them RIGHT THERE. Some dogs will be deterred from eliminating where they eat.
