I adopted a 10 month old male Scottie through a Humane Society. After a long car ride home yesterday he's nervous but adjusting. He hasn't eaten, save a dog treat this morning and some water last night. Is there anything I should be concerned about?

Hi! First congrats on your new pup! Second welcome to the Doghobbyist it's good to have you here. Your little guy will be nervous and a little unsettled in his new surroundings at first. It may take a day or two for him to begin to feel comfortable. As long as you see him drinking water he should be fine. He'll eat when he wants to. You'll have to post a picture or two... it would be great to see a Scottie pup. Being a registered member you have access to a free photo account here. Just click on the Photo Gallery link above and follow the instructions, it's really easy to do. If you have a question about it just post back.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.
Congrats on your new puppy! For now, I'd say just give you new pup lots of love, attention, understanding, and consistency with a routine. You'll have a lot of new adventures ahead of you! Such a fun time. Welcome and tell us more details please.

Welcome! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of your new pup! I'm a couple days late in reading your post and am hoping your dog is more relaxed and eating now. It does take a day or two for dogs to adjust, but with love and care he'll come around in no time.

Hi and welcome to the board. Hope we'll be hearing more about your Scottie. I think it's wonderful that you adopted this little guy and he'll be very happy to have a new home he can call his own. I wouldn't worry too much about his not eating very much now. He's probably a little excited and nervous with his new surroundings. Hope you'll be able to post a picture of your new friend. We would love to see him. You might also want to join us in Small Dog Chat each Thursday at 10:00 PMEST.
