frequent urination in foster dog

carmeny Jan 19, 2007 01:37 PM

I still have my two foster dogs, emma and mojo. Mojo (pom/papillon cross) seems to be urinating alot. I watch her go outside and she pees about 3 times and a fair amount each time (not like marking with a dot here and there). when she is in the house she wears a doggie diaper with a pad. I let them out every hour or so but still when i take off her doggie diaper to go outside the pad is soaked with pee and she still goes out and pees more. could she have a bladder infection? she is not straining at all and is eating and drinking normally(not drinking an excessive amount). she has also developed a minor cough in the last couple weeks. any suggestions? thank you.

Hi,
My first suggestion would be to take Mojo to the vet to rule out any serious problem. It does sound like she has a urinary problem of some sort. The vet may have some suggestions for you and perhaps some medication to give Mojo. Right now you seem to be doing all the right things. Small dogs do tend to need to go out more often than the larger ones but this doesn't seem normal to me. Please let us know what suggestions the vet has and good luck. I think it's wonderful that you foster dogs these dogs.

thank you. all of our local vets are not open over the weekend so i will take her next week. dr. tobin(holistic vet) suggested a urinalysis to rule out bladder infection or kidney failure. she is a great little dog (papillon, pom cross) and she is only about 4-5 years old so i would like to get her fixed up. i will keep you posted next week!

saw vet assistant today and mentioned the problem briefly to her - she said she thought it sounded like a bit of a bladder infection so i will check into that. even suggested some cranberry to see if that helps clear it up will let you know.
