Poodle Hacks

bonniebonbon Jan 27, 2007 12:04 AM

We adopted a 4 yr old poodle a few days ago from the human society. two days ago he started hacking - a lot. He sounds like a goose and sometimes he hacks up a small amount of white stuff. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions? He was examined by his vet and got a rabbies shot the day we got him. The vet said he was in perfect health

Have you recontacted your vet and made mention of the hacking. It could be a sign of kennel cough or a reaction to the rabies shot or even a problem with the dogs airway. Did you make a switch of foods when you adopted him? It could also be an allergic reaction to the dog food.

I agree with the suggestion of kennel cough. That hacking sound is the way dogs cough, and since you got the dog from a shelter it would have been really easy for her to get kennel cough. Some antibiotics should clear it right up.
