Collapsed Trachea

ShihTzuluv Feb 02, 2007 06:32 PM

My 10 year old ShihTzu has been diagnosed with a possable collapsed Trachea. Is there anything I can do Holistic to help with the terrible cough he has. I have been given cough tabs but they do not seem to help him at all.He sounds like a goose. I am hoping they will take Xrays of his throat and make sure there is nothing caught in his throat. His regular Vet just listened to his cough and felt his throat. He started coughing alot when she touched his throat. Could it still be possible that he has something hung there? If it is collapsed is there something I can do to help him.I do not want if they do, give any sterods.
Thank You

Collapsed tracheas occur predominently in smaller dogs. Coughing occurs more when the dog is excited and is breathing faster, as the faster the air moves the more the traches closes down. Try not to get the dog excited. Unfortunately, I don't know of any helpful treatment for this, conventional or otherwise.
