Getting a Standard Poodle

advertiserlove Mar 03, 2007 08:14 PM

Im thinking about purchasing a white standard poodle. How does the name Flemington sound? It will be a male and he will be decked out in a fancy poodle cut and rhinestone collar. :] lol.
How are they personality wise? I had a dalmatian for the last 81/2 years [he died this past december] and I loved him very much because he had such an outgoing yet loving personality..are standard poodles similar at all? Anything else I should know???

Years ago an aunt of mine breed Poodles for show so growing up we always had a Poodle... miniatures. Poodles are great dogs and make wonderful pets and companions. Flemington would be a name that would seem to suit a Standard Poodle.

Hi,
I've never owned a poodle but had a friend who did and she was a lovely dog. I love the name Flemington...very dignified name. Good luck and hope you'll come back and show us a picture of Flemington.

I have Standard Poodles. One is very outgoing, lovable. Other is more reserved but very sweet. They make really great Obedience, Rally, Agility, therapy dogs. Just make sure you get him from a reputable breeder. I love the name.

You can't go wrong with a well bred standard poodle. Just make sure you find a good breeder that deals with the hips and genetic issues.

Recently we had to put my 10 year old down. He had cancer, arthritis, and his pain medication was not working anymore. Our 13 year old son cried almost all day, I cried half the day, it was about the worst day I can remember. But. The dog was flat out the best dog I have ever seen his whole life. Getting him all those years ago was the smartest thing I have ever done.
If you are prepared for the grooming and exercise, you will never be sorry.

My big boy was never a couch potato; not hyper at all, but he enjoyed life and physical activity of all kinds; walking, swimming, etc. His personality was very mellow, gentle and laid back - had an interest and curiosity in everything, but was very "live and let live" in attitude. He and I visited at the nursing home, hospital, daycare centers and schools, and he never put a foot wrong.

Get a good standard socialize him and train him well, and you'll cherish every day with him.
