Husky HOT SPOTS HELP!

husky1237 Mar 07, 2007 10:02 PM

My 8 year old Male Siberian Husky who weighs about 50.7LBS has hot spots on his back (meat spots/little pus), scratches front elbows (scarred), chest (rashes), butt is red (bit his hair out).

He's a retired show dog, I just got him a couple days ago owner told me that he has a habit of scratching. He was on Propac Holistic kibbles and 1000mg of Evening Primrose. Since coming to my home, thinking he might have allergies I'm trying to eliminate kibble allergy by giving him 15.8 oz of minced lamb and supplements:

Vitamin E 100 I.U X 2

QBC Complex Quercetin 500mg, Bromelain 50mg, Vitamin C 1250 mg X 1

Salmon Oil Omega 3 1000 mg X 2

n*Zymes 291mg X 2

Multidophilis Lactic Flora X 1

Spirulina 200mg X 2

For the hot spots, I use diluted Tea Tree Oil to clean and Aloe Vera Gel for application.

Please help me and let me know what I'm doing wrong with diet/ supplements or what I should do? I'm at my wits end. If I go to the vet, they will probably send me home with some cream. He's such a good and loving dog. I don't want to see him itching and uncomfortable.

Your supplement program looks good. Since he's only been on this regimen a few days, you need to give it more time. Some things you might try if you are still having problems in a few weeks, are to stop the kibble altogether and increase the meat, give him bones to chew, add yogurt or acidophilus, and increase the fish oil. If none of this helps, have a thyroid panel run. T4 should be 2 units or higher.

Thanks for your reply. Is the dosage for some of the supplements too much? Eg. the QBC Complex Vit C is 1250mg. I heard that a 50lbs dog should take 500mg per day.

These dosages are not too high. See how the dog does at this level. You can adjust them .ater as needed.
