Red foot sleeps in his pond?

sgoodson1 Oct 10, 2003 07:12 AM

We have a redfoot that we have had a couple of months, and i was wondering if its strange for them to sleep in their water? She does this about 2 to 3 times a week. Is this normal? Thanks Scott

Occasional is not a bad thing and I've seen it done before but I wouldn't let him do it as a long term habit. Does it have a moist place to sleep?

Yea he has a hide box with some moss that is sprayed down, but i think maybe we need to keep her more moist. We soak her every day but how moist should her cage be? And what is a good substrate for her? Thanks for the answer and any other info you have. Scott

I use pinebark mulch and it is not moist at all. They hang out in the water bowl occasionally but I don't worry about it. I would suggest that you keep it as is and just keep an eye out. Also, make sure the moist hide is in the warmer area of the enclosure.
