Taking Back the Couch

saramkg Mar 18, 2007 09:12 PM

I have a 50 pound Lab/Beagle mix. My dog knows that he is not allowed on the sofa and only lays on the sofa when I am not there. When he hears my car in the driveway he always gets off before I get to the door. He seems content with his own bed when I am home. He has a really comfy dog couch that is in the same room as the sofa. I am not sure how to correct him?? Interestingly enough, when my roommate gets home he remains on the sofa until she verbally corrects him. Any opinions on those sprays or other products on the market?? Thanks.

Gee, that's a tough one. Have you tried removing the cushions from the sofa when you're not home? He may not find it as comfortable without the cushions and return to his own couch.

I haven't tried any of the "remote" products out there to keep a dog off or away from an area. Sorry.

If you are that concerned about where your dog is while you are away, a kennel is really the best solution for you.

Personally, I let my dogs be on the furniture, but when I tell them to get off they must listen. That's my criteria though and I do put throws on the sofa during shedding season so the fur doesn't get as unmanagable.

Ha Ha I had a sneaking dog like that too...

He would sneak the couch during the night when we were all asleep, it was never all the time but every once in a while. We would either pile stuff on the chairs/couch or put stuff infront so he couldn't get up on it. He was never really cured, but it was when of his harmless quirks.
