Introduction and a question or two,...

Sashapit11 Mar 23, 2007 01:42 PM

I am the new owner of an adopted pit who was going to go to the Humane society. Her name is Sasha and she is about 4-6 months old. She is super cute and smart, is great with my kid so far. SO she has ben at our house for almost two days and has not pooped yet. Other things are that she is terrified when we take her outside on walks. I don't know if she has ever been on a leash but she seems really scared. She also is super afraid of doors, I have had to pick her up to get her out of the apartment. I think someone used to hit her as she backs away really fast at some hand movements and seems to have an issue with people standing up around her? Anyways she is really nice, has not growled or barked,.. it just seems like she might have had some abuse in the psat. I was wondering if someone could point me in some direction or give hints about dealing with these specific behavior issues. We have been constantly touching her since we got her, and it seems to be helping her phobia of us; however it is making it difficult cause I literally think she is too scared o go to the bathroom, and she looks like she is terrified of her own shadow. Thanks for the help we will be getting some pictures up here soon. Bye for now! Sorry for lomng post

Hi and congrats on your new APBT. I don't know much about the breed but I have met two before and they were really sweet dogs.

Being new in her surroundings could also be a reason for the behavior she is showing including the pooping issue. I think you are on the right track as for the touching and socialization, I would continue with that. Be patient, she is probably a little scared and nervous... for some dogs moving into new surroundings can be traumatic. Has she been eating at all? Having her for only two days it's hard to make an assessment... for some dogs it could take weeks before they feel completely comfortable. BTW... no post is ever to long and when you can get those pictures up!
