Bland diet

abukuchick Mar 30, 2007 01:47 PM

I have a nine month old chihuahua puppy who has had diarrhea for 4 days now. I've had him on a bland diet of boiled chicken and rice for 3 days. He wasn't getting better so I had the vet do a fecal test (no parasites found) and got their advice. They gave him a dewormer just incase and also gave us FortiFlora which is good bacteria for the digestive tract. Anyway, last night Andre ate his chicken and rice with the fortiflora and a few hours later threw up. Now he won't even look at the chicken and rice, I think the smell of it makes him sick. I read that I could use cottage cheese and rice as a bland diet, would that work? He doesn't mind the fortiflora, mainly the chicken mixture, but he needs to eat a bland diet. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

One more thing, my other puppy (they're littermates) has been having softer stool since eating the same bland diet...why would this be? I'm letting him eat some kibble as well, but I have trouble keeping him out of Andre's bland food.

Leave out the rice and feed both dogs chicken alone, except for the probiotic. Also, give the dog homeopathic Arsenicum album 30c 3 times a day. Make sure she doesn't become dehydrated.
