Coconuts and my ESS

ricsa Apr 03, 2007 07:49 PM

Hello to all.
I moved to Panama for early retirement and brought my 5 ESS with me. They love it.

The one thing that always blows me away is the fact that my dogs love the fruits here.

For me.....my fruit section is my backyard. However, their number one pick is always coconuts and the milk inside. We open up 5 coconuts and give one to each of the dogs, they love it. Also they really enjoy the coconuts just when the tree is starting to come out. We open these and inside there is a sponge type element that they eat with a passion.

Second pick is avocado. We have two huge trees that produce softball size fruit. One of the springers (Oreo Bonita) jumps up and grabs the avocados on the lower branches to eat.

Third pick is mango. We have those all over the place.

Fourth pick is palm date nuts.

and #5 is oranges.

As far as being happy....well they have many large iguanas to run after.

What a great variety of goodies you have. Sounds like the dogs really enjoy them. Wouldn't be a bad idea if you check with your local vet to be sure all is safe for them to eat and how many they should consume.

Cool! That's one way to keep the fruit picked up. My dogs don't go near fruit. One caution- the skin and pit of avacados are toxic to dogs and there's one variety where the fruit is toxic as well. Not all, but you may want to look into it a tiny bit. Mango is wonderful for dogs with arthritis. My older dog won't touch the stuff though.

Enjoy the new place and make sure those iguanas don't slap the pups in the face with that tail- OUCH!
