Sorry One more question. For a few weeks before the dog food recall, I noticed some weird things with my puppy Gauge. I noticed that he constantly drank water and he would pee constantly. I actually had problems potty training him because I would put him in the crate when I left for work at 08:30am and by 11:00 am, He already had peed in his crate. I initially thought he was just going to be a difficult puppy to potty train. All my other aussies were crate trained from the time I got them. Well I started noticing that when I would take him outside to pee, he would literally pee for about 5 minutes and the stream was very weak. It seemed like it was difficult for him to empty his bladder. He literally had to be taken out at least every two hours. Once he really got potty trained (only a few weeks ago), he would wake me up at night by continously licking my hands or feet until I got up to take him out. If the licking didnt wake me up he would put his front paws on my bed get nose to nose with me, rest his head on the bed and make soft little wimpering noises until I opened my eyes. This happened like three or four times a night. Well he had been on Nutro dog food initally, both the canned and the dry. I changed him off of that because he didnt seem to like it and I really wanted him to gain weight. While I was out of town, one of my friends puppy sat for me and she had bought him those mighty dog packets. I think that is what it was called. He seemed to really like that, so I kept him on it for about three weeks. Then I found out about the pet food recall and it was on the list. I started feeding him Kibbles and Bits canned and dry because according purina, their food hadnt been affected by the recall. He ate that ok but when I went back to the store, neither of them had it, so I switched to alpo dry and canned prime cuts in gravy. While Gauge was on the Kibble and Bits, I noticed that he wasnt drinking so much water or peeing so much. We actually started getting through the nights without him having to go pee several times. Then, when I switched him to the prime cuts in gravy, the frequent peeing and the excessive thirst started again along with vomiting. He was only on it for a couple of days before I took him off and started to make his food myself from chicken, beef and vegetables. Within a few days, he again stopped drinking so much water and peeing so much. Initally before any of the recalls, I had taken him to the vet because he hurt his leg. While I was there, I mentioned to the vet about his excessive thirst and urinating. He chekced him out and did some lab work on him but nothing showed up. I dont know if he checked to make sure his kidneys were ok or not. I called him after the recall but he was no longer having any symptoms. He gave him a clean bill of health. Do any of you know if there are any long lasting effects from this? I really didnt feel like my vet was that concerned. Gauge is always a happy little guy, he never looked sick. I initally blamed his vomiting and diarrhea on a raw hide my room mate had given him. My last dog always threw up raw hides and he always got diarrhea after eating them so i never give them to my dogs. If he isnt having any problems now, should I still worry about him? It really bothers me that I specifically changed his food because purina said that their food was ok and then to find out it wasnt. Thanks
