Shy Dobe???

egglog12 Apr 09, 2007 05:05 AM

Hi all!!..new here.. i got a doberman pup about 6 weeks old and he's shy and nervous, i know this is bad for this breed which result from bad breeding, and i'm too stupid to take him too young, can this be fix?? i couldn't take him out to socialize because he only had couple shots...

anyway, he's really smart..he learned to used training pads in less than two days although sometimes he misses the target. He sleeps inside the crate in my room, i leaved the crate open just so when he needs to used the pads and also he can walk/play around.

Thanks much!!!

what is done is done, so now at this point you need to do what you can to make your puppy a good dog.

As soon as possible, get your puppy out to socialize - make sure that you have had two puppy vaccinations first. You can sit outside a store with small treats (just puppy kibble is fine for this) and ask people to feed your puppy a treat. Never force your puppy to interact, but praise and encourage it to.

Also, sign up for a puppy socialization class as soon as you can.

Everything you do to socialize should be fun - remove from anything threatening asap. Do not let him play at a dog park as a young puppy - too much chance of having a bad experience.
