breeding age

does the quality of pups decrease as the dogs get older? meaning is there a point where a dog who produces really good puppies gets too old and starts the dogs aren't the same?

I'd be interested to find out this answer myself. As a guess, I'd say yes, but I'm sure it's very breed specific as to what that cut off date really is. Most of the great breeders in my breed only breed their females once or twice in hopes of getting a better female to pass on the torch to. Males are not used very often either and typically altered at the latest around age 7. That's my breed though and not sure what is generally done with other breeds.
