I'm not sure if this is the right category but I have a question about biting. I have a German Shepherd mix. She is a little over 2 years old. Tonight, she was laying in bed with my mother, when I went to hug my Mom, my dog bit me. I'm guessing she was just trying to protect my Mom, but it worried me. I haven't been around the house as much and I'm scared that she isn't trusting me as much. Also, I don't want her to bite someone who isn't a threat. Is there some kind of training to prevent this or is it normal?

Not sure if it normal and I am not a dog trainer, but it sounds like the dog has claimed your Mom as her's and you should stay away, at least in the dogs mind.

If that happens again take dog away from the situation give the command sit/stay and then hug Mom. When done hugging call dog and praise.

Well that is my 2 cents worth.

Thanks! It doesn't always happen.. she just gets a little touchy. Like if we yell at the kids she'll growl. I think shes just very over protective.
