hows' everybody doin? i've had dobes for about 5 years now. a friend of mine found a red dobe(somebody abandoned him) on his farm, and i took the big guy in. i've been hooked ever since. i currently have a 5 year old male, i think he's around 5, got him from the illinois rescue, so not positive on the age. biggest baby you ever saw. my girlfriend got a dobe pup last year, actually the little fart turned 1 on April 28th. both are reds, very good dogs. the only problem i have with my male is he gets in the garbage when i leave. he started this when i first moved into this house, and when i got a trash container with a lid, he stopped. recently he started up again, knocking the trash over and eating/spreading it around. what can i do? anyway, here's some pics.
Here's Kain, my male

Bella, the little girl

i love this pic

some of those pics are kinda old, Bella's taller than Kain, but still about 30 lbs. under him. he's a very thick dog, not all that fat, just a tank.

A friend of mine "booby trapped' her garbage can by stacking a pyramid of empty soda cans on top so when being messed with the cans would fall and scare the pup. It worked, but her pup is a bit noise shy.

I might do something similar, but have a water pitcher on top to drench the dog when knocked over. I'd also just make sure to take the trash out often so it's just not appealing. Garbage is one of those problems where once they've been rewarded and found good things inside, it's a tough habit to break.

Creativity is the key and in my opinion if you can set up a remote type correction- this is an ideal situation for one.

i tried something like that before. i put mousetraps on the top of the garbage and hid them under some paper towels. it worked, but the problem with that was that i had to redo it everytime someone threw something out, and a lot of mousetraps got thrown away. i don't think that would work this time, i think Kain knocks the can over first to get the top off. i live in a duplex with 3 other people, so there's a lot of trash. it gets emptied often, but it fills up pretty quick, too. thanks for the suggestion, i'll see if i can figure something out.
