Dog Constipation

nationwide May 07, 2007 03:20 PM

hi everyone.

My beagle, 'studley' Dudley has become constipated recently. I'm not really sure why, because we haven't found that he's gotten into anything. He's caught up on all of his shots. He eats only dog food. No people food. He's walked pretty much every nite. I've already tried giving him pumpkin, but he just looked at it and walked away. He wasn't interested. I've already scheduled an appointment with the vet for first thing tomorrow morning. This was the soonest she could fit me in. (and that took alot of begging)

I've done alot of research in google about Dog constipation, or constipation in dogs. Nothing really helped. Every website said to give him pumpkin, and not the pie-filling. I did find one site that mentioned you can give him Grape-Nuts Flakes, which I assume is for the added fiber. Is that safe? I listed it below. But, the thing is, I'm scared to give my dog something that I found on some random website. I don't trust it.

Can anyone give me any constipation tips for dogs? I heard that prunes work. Is that true? safe? I could tell that he's uncomfortable, because he's not nearly as active as he usually is, nor is he howling anymore. He always howls and barks when he's excited. I'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow regardless, but I would like to give him some sort of relief now. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sorry your dog is experiencing this! I think going to the vet is a great idea. Has your dog been drinking enough water?
