Sebaceous Cyst

TeamGenji May 08, 2007 06:51 PM

My 4-year old German Shepherd has three Sebaceous Cysts on his body. One is on his back, one is near his hip and the third one is his tail. They all have small blackheads, and if I squeeze them which I don't, white stuff like "cheeze"(That's ther only way I can describe it) comes out.

But he just chewd the one on his tail! There is a small hole on it, it's bleeding a little bit and smelly yellow puss is drainging out. The first thing I did was clipped the hair around it and cleaned it with warm salt water.

Is there anything else I can do for this?

By the way, the one he chewed is much softer now, and it seems smaller than before.

Add a few drops of calendula tincture to the warm salt water you are using to clean the sebaceous cyst.

Thank you very much!

Hi Dr. Tobin,

I couldn't find calendula tincture in my area, so I orderd one but I haven't applied calendula tincture unfortunately as I haven't received my order.

This morning I left him alone for a hour or so and he chewd it again while I was gone. From now on I have to put an e-collar on him when I go out. Pus is coming out much less than before, smells less nasty, but yellowish redish stuff (I guess the miture of pus and blood?) is coming out of it a little bit. The cyst is much more softer but seems like still pus is in there and wants to come out. Also I noticed there is white stuff (cheesy stuff) in the hole.

Hopefully I'll receive calendula tincture tomorrow. I just wonder how often I should clean the area.

Dear Dr. Tobin,

My East German Shepard has recently developed several large sebaceous cysts along her spine, mostly on the right side. I'm treating them with an irrigation of calendula & plantain tea mixed with several drops of echinacea, reishi and a small amount of bloodroot tincture. I've only given her a rabies vaccine once in her life when she was about a year and will not give her another while she's experiencing the skin problems. I'm curious about the cause since she's enjoyed an extremely healthy 9 years.

Thank-you!
