Protein question

wolfsnaps May 10, 2007 10:53 AM

Ok, so I started the raw diet and here is my question. I have heard people say that certian kibble is too rich or too high in protein for their dogs. Well, what about a raw diet? Isn't that what nature provides? A rich, protein filled diet? I am confused here because I have an active dog and a less than active dog and I feed them both the same things.

Can raw be too rich or too protein filled?

I don't think I can be of much help since I don't feed raw. I do know it's not as hard to do as many people think it's just a matter of doing the research. The hardest part is starting out. As for raw being to rich? Again I'm not sure but if dogs and cats eat a mouse... it's all protein and water.

As long as a diet is not excessive nor deficient in any micronutrients, nor excessive nor deficient in calories, and the dog is a healthy, normal dog, there is no such thing as "too much" protein in a canine diet.

Protein in and of itself is good for dogs and does not harm them. However, dogs also need fat, minerals, and micronutrients.

They do not require carbohydrates.
