Hi first time posting on the chesapeake bay retriever forum

have never had a dog before is there any reason that one of these would be a bad choice for first dog?

It depends on how much time you have to devote to the training of a Chessie. They can be a handful if not properly socialized but can be very loyal dogs if handled correctly. They are a very strongwilled dog who require lots of excercise.

Hi, I've never owned a chesapeake bay retriever so I can't provide you with much information about the breed. Being a retriever however, I would think that they would need an ample amount of exercise and running. You might also want to look up information on the breed before you purchase a dog. Perhaps someone reading this board will be able to provide you with more specific information.

These are just things that I have heard about Chespeake's. They are extremely loyal, but head strong dogs that need training from day one. Be sure to check out breeders very careful and ask lots of questions. Get a health certificate and return policy of the dog if not satisfactory.
