dobe nipping

minidome May 16, 2007 09:49 PM

Hi, I recently bought a male dobe (11 weeks) a really nice dog, except for nipping, especially to the kids 4 and 10yrs. Hasn't hurt them, but seems to do it more when I'm not watching as I corrected him from doing it to me by shaking him on the scruf. I was thinking about putting a muzzle on him so that he dosen't develope a bad habit, but I dont know if that will do more harm than good. Pleas help

This is tough to correct if you are not there. I personally don't scruff and shake a dog for misbehaving. I don't find it teached a dog the correct lessons. I instead praise lavisly when a dog is doing what I want it to do and try to prevent the nipping by standing up and redirecting to appropriate chew toys.

A puppy training class would be very helpful for many reasons.
