Help!!! breeding trouble!!!!

bommi May 23, 2007 07:14 PM

Ok, first some background:

I am now breeding a 4 1/2 yr old rottie bitch, this is her first breeding, she of course has all her health clearences, ect. The stud is unfortuanataly also inexperienced but extremely willing lol, he is 5 yrs old.

During her last heat we were to late, took her to meet the stud on day 18 after being to the vets every day for the whole week before to see when the "optimal time" would be and the test said this was the day!!!. She was flagging and willing on that day but less so the day after and after that she would have none of it. So we waited for the next heat.

We where going to be so prepared.....

Went to meet the stud last sunday(day 14,still spotting very lightly, very pale pink), she was flagging but would not allow him to enter...yelps as soon as he seems to enter her....we wanted it to happen naturally if possible. tried again the next day..same thing, day after , same. The bitch always willing but as soon as she seems to feel him she will have none of it. Yesterday we decide to help,I muzzle her and hold her(had my knees under her to support her, stud owner guides him in and our helper supports the stud) well things r looking good he is in then ooops falls out the same instant as he swells. Poor dog stands there more tired than he has ever been in his life with a horribly confused look on his face, his bits swollen andd he cant even walk.....stays this way for 20 min....poor guy (yup, we r inexperienced also)

We decide to give them some rest, my girl was getting really agitated and try again today. Well things went from bad to worse....he wore himself out fast( we made the mistake of letting them have a go for themselfes, hoping for it to happen naturally) He was still eager and willing, cant contain himself, will do anything to get to her....she flagging and seems pretty eager....we all get in position, she is muzzled and off we go!!! everything seems to be working out but he doesnt seem to have any strenght to finish....gets off, gets on again and back and forth.
She seems to have had enuff, is getting pissed off and we reschedule for tomorow....

So any tips and advise is really needed....she is still flagging, but I think we have 2 days, 3 at most( personally only think 2 days)

I am in Iceland so rottie breeding is just getting started
( rotties only been allowed into the country for about 10 yrs) and that means that there r no breeders to mentor us and i am getting a bit desperate cus well if it doesnt work out this heat or the next we will not breed her.Personnally I dont want to breed after 5 yrs old. Only found the right stud last yr.

Also this breeding is important due to very strict import laws, 4 week qaurantine and only 1 facilty to do the quarantine, and I would not trust it with a plant let alone my dog. The other thing being the cost, importing would cost at least 11.000 US $ and that is not including the price of the dog wich is not cheap for a breed quality stud or bitch!!!

So please please advise me.

Thanx all.

I'm very sorry. This is way out of my area of expertise. Maybe you can find a breeder of a different breed in your area to help you in person. Good luck to you.
