Dog Barrier for Vehicle

keown May 25, 2007 04:12 PM

We have a four-year old, 70 lb., male Siberian Husky who travels with us frequently. He is a lovable dog...other than being very determined, bull-headed and strong. We have a Yukon and a Tahoe and we have purchased a couple of different dog barriers to install in these vehicles in order to keep him in the back cargo area. They work fine while we are in the car, but if we get out for just a couple of minutes he will litterly demolish the barrier by forcing his hody between the aluminum bars or between the barrier and the body of the vehicle. He has totally ruined 4 of these barriers so far. The last ones we bought were the ones sold by Cabellas and they did not last long. All of the models we had tried so far are held into place by verticle screw-poles that tighten in place between the floor and the roof of the vehicle. It seems that something that could be permenantly mounted with screws, etc would work better but we have been unable to find snything like that.

Does anybody have any recomendations on a barrier that might contain this husky who is too strong for his own good?

Thanks

Gerald

I think investing in a large wire crate to keep the dog contained might be the way to go. The only other suggestion would be to find a car guy that can install additional supports or screw holds for tie downs.

Maybe not a wire crate, because plastic crates make them feel more secure, and reduce whats going on around them.
My husky mix had a problem with puking on car trips until just this week (finally stopped), before this I had to use a plastic crate with him. My pure husky loves car rides, he can even be trusted with groceries in the back with him, thats a well behaved husky.
