davisfam Jun 08, 2007 11:32 AM

Hello everyone.

My dog Roxie is a 3 y.o. Chow and recently found her way out of the backyard. She returned 2 days later, And now is afraid to go outside, and is acting strange. She doesnt like rain and while away it stormed, but i have no idea if something or someone traumatized her. She has no scars that we can see. Can you please help us out

don't comfort her when it rains/thunders. That could show her that there might be something to worry about! That is the one bit of advice that I can give you. Act normally.

You may never know what frightened her, but what I would do is go out with her on lead in the yard. Do it a lot until she gets back her confidence. Don't make a big thing about it just be there.

Storms fears sometimes can be help by playing radio loud and turning on and off lights. It does seem to desensitize them sometimes, but it takes time.
