torn acl / separation anxiety issues

newadoption Jun 09, 2007 04:12 PM

Hello, I recently adopted a 6 year old great pyrenes/shep mix from a shelter. (almost 4 weeks ago ) We have been dealing with severe separation anxiety issues that are slowly calming down with a lot of work. Now there is a new problem, it seems he has a torn acl in his left rear knee. I am trying my best to handle both matters as naturally as I can. However is is on clomicalm and zanax now for the separation issues. It is helping a lot and I plan on keeping both meds very short term. Please advise me on this issue as well as the torn acl. They want him on rimadyl for a coulple of weeks and then want to do x-rays to evaluate possible hip issues then possibly discuss surgery for the knee. Am trying my best here but am at a loss.
Thank You
Chuck

Y ou might try giving your dog homeopathic Calc. carb. 30c as well as the Clomicalm. For the damaged ACL, try wrapping the leg to keep the knee from moving, or at least moving too much, and giving Connective Tissue Tonic to relieve pain and speed healing, instead of Rimadyl, which damages the liver.

Thank You! I totally know and understand the issues with the Rimadyl, and am very concerned about it. Please tell me more about the Connective Tissue Tonic, I am very more into this then the so called meds. As far as the wrap, as in an ace bandage type thing? I have been looking into splints but not finding many that work for the knee. Again, thank you for the reply. Also, IF it is not a complete tear, do you think accupunture can help? I have a friend that is a vet that gave up western medicine practice for a different approach, doing home health care for critters. ANy thoughts on this?

The ace bandage will keep the knee from violent motions, but you have to go around his abdomen to keep the bandage in place, for it has a tendency to slide down. Call me about the Connective Tissue Tonic..
