New Chi

gerryssscales Jun 19, 2007 03:00 PM

Hi everyone, my wife and I are in the process of acquiring a chi and were wondering what is the best food for him? I was reading about whole foods and Wellness dog food seems to be one of the best. I was reading the main ingredient in most dog foods is corn, while these whole foods are chicken and other proteins as the main ingredients.

Also, how much exercises to Chi's need on a daily basis? How much food should be fed daily?

Any advise?
Thanks

Congrats on your new soon to be puppy. Wellness is a very good food and one that I use with my own dogs. When looking for a food be sure to get a good quality premium food and be wary of the pet food recall list. If your new Chi is a puppy, you will want to feed him a good quality puppy food. I wouldn't think a pup that small would eat more than maybe a couple of tablespoons but I would have to check that out. As for exercise I don't think a Chi requires an overabundance of excercise but a short walk around the block would be enough to keep him happy.

Thanks, I didn't realized Wellness was now sold at Pet Supermarket. I remember reading and only a local small private pet shop about 40 minutes away was the nearest supply to me.

Wellness is a great food and one I've used in the past with my dogs. Mail ordering dog foods has become an easy task and one that wouldn't be too cost prohibative for a Chihuahua if you can't find the food locally.

As for how much to feed- use the package recommendations and judge from there. I tend to have to feed the lower amounts to my dogs even though they are farily active.
