Meet Charlie

I havent really been too active on these boards for a while so Im not sure if I told you all about Cody's death. He was hit by a car in March, 3 weeks after I got my border collie puppy Delta. My housemates mini foxies moved in there to keep her company (I dont like keeping a dog on its own when I am at work everyday).

About 6 weeks ago I moved into a place on my own and was once again faced with the only dog problem. As Delta is so young I knew I wouldnt be able to get another puppy just yet, I just couldnt handle 2 puppies at once. So, I started looking around at the rescues. I really wanted another border collie as I absolutely adore the breed but there were none that met what I was after (2 year old Male). Then I was randomly searching the RSPCA website and found a dog called Sparrow who stole my heart. After talking with the lady I organised a weekend trip to go and see him and bring him back (he was 6 hours away).

When I got there we quickly realised he just wouldnt be the dog for me. He was terrified of everything and would take months and months of work before he could be taken out of the yard. Once she realised how heavily involved with dog sports I was she showed me another dog she had just got in. They were sure he was Sparrows littermate as they are the same age, look identical (which is saying something when you look at how odd their markings are) and there were 7 pups from Sparrows litter that the guy got rid of quickly when he heard the inspector was coming back (Sparrow and another one were found behind a mattress in the shed).

To cut a long story short... I ended up taking Charlie. He is a confident dog who has obviously been well loved in the past. He is housetrained, knew some basic commands, and was in a reasonable condition when he was found. He had wandered into the RSPCA van at the local show and spent the day entertaining kids. At the end of the day they put over and announcement but nobdoy came to collect him. They arent allowed to take in strays that arent injured so the took him to the pound. After his 7 days were up the lady went back to get him as she couldnt let him die when he looked so much like Sparrow. He had only spent 2 weeks with her when I went there.

He is great with kids, people, dogs, even my cat. We are waiting for the weather to improve so that we can start Obedience (it rains every thursday for some reason). He has had 2 agility classes so far and is a natural He is working offlead which is a great start and much easier for me. Delta is also doing the beginner agility course so I have my hands full at training (she is doing a modified program though). Once she is 12 months I will start taking them both to flyball and herding. Delta is from working lines and has already shown that the instinct is there, I just dont want to train her yet. Not sure about Charlie though... will just wait and see what he does with sheep in front of him.

He is a 2 1/4 year old Kelpie x Australian Cattle Dog. His mother was actually a cattle x and by looking at him Im positive that there is some staffy in there (check out his head).

Now for some pictures of Charlie- Kelpie x ACD; Cody (to jog your memory)- BC x ACD; Delta- BC

Well, this post really was about Charlie. So he should probably have more pics

Alright... the first day I brought him home; with Delta at the creek (he loves water); and finally looking like an overgrown funny coloured AmStaff

A BIG thank you for the second chance for Charlie. Sounds like you have a winner and a keeper.
