pool crazy lab

nise Jun 25, 2007 11:38 PM

I have a client with a 2 year-old lab who is very sweet but goes absolutely crazy when his owner or anyone is in the pool. He will literally jump on their heads or paw at them when they swim by the edge. Any suggestions on method or technique would be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

Being a Lab of course he will naturally be drawn to the water. I think I would try leash training with the dog to try and get him to stop this behavior. With the leash attached everytime the dog heads for the pool they would give a tug and say NO then have him sit or re-direct his attention away from the pool. It would take some time patience but it can be done.
