immune system & polyarthritis

janome Jul 01, 2007 04:16 PM

My dobie / shep mix Ranger has been diagnosed with an immune system problem that effects multiple joints. we thought he had lupus for a while but that is a neg. I took him to a internal specialist vet who did a joint tap and concluded that he has this immune problem that makes his joints swell. immune mediated polyarthritis i think she called it. right now he is on pred ( he's been on and off pred for a while now) also is taking doxycycline 1 tab a day for 3 weeks. has like 6 more days on that. giving him a glucosimine supplement. he's on phenobarb for seizures but hasn't had any seizure in months now.

can you tell me what holistic treatments there are for this condition where his immune system attacks his joints and make them swell? also i do want to get him off the prednisone. makes him very hungry and thirsty. he's on 10mg once a day. his vet wants a phone call this week to see how he is doing then we go from there. he is doing great right now. no swelling or limping.

thank you.

there is a lot we can do for swollen joints, for arthritis, for immune-mediated disorders, and for seizures. In this case, the best approach is to treat the dog homeopathicly, taking into account not just the symptoms, but also the characteristics and personality of the dog, in order to get down to the root cause and correct it; the root cause being a problem in the dog's metabolism or biochemistry. Treating each symptom separately will cause new problems to arise.
