Enough already, he's Friendly!

Thai Jul 07, 2007 01:12 PM

The attention we get as a Doberman owner is great. But unfortunately it gets annoying after awhile. Everytime I take him out people's heads always turn and stare. Most of the time they love the dog and then you get the people that are automatically terrified. Like, I mean TERRIFFIED. One old lady managed to pick up her poodle (which had to be at least 50lbs) and ran past us on the trails. C'mon. My guy is super friendly, well trained and socialized. He's grew up around kids and my 4 year old daughter totally dominates him. I'm constantly having to tell everyone that he's friendly everywhere we go. And the most pathetic thing is, it's always the little yappy dogs that try and attack him! WTF. Sorry just had to rant, and I'm sure most of you are in a similar boat as me.

Here's my guy:

I can understand what you're saying. Unfortunately with certain breeds there is always the sterotype we have to deal with. I have Shiba Inu's and they have same sterotype as being incorrigible yet people really don't understand them.

Understand the rant. Once a breed gets a bad name, it is so very hard to get rid of the reputation.

Beautiful dog. Oh yeah cute kid.

Sadly, a big black dog coming down the street does tend to scare people. It shouldn't be the case, but it does. It's nice to know your dog is a great anbasador for the breed. Sadly, that just isn't always the case and breed bias lives on.
