Mice are capable of transmitting several pathogens to snakes, such as coccidia, various flagellates, some nematodes, some cestodes, salmonella, E. coli and others. All of these can cause disease in snakes and some can even cause zoonose.
Strangely enough, one of the most commonly seen is mouse pinworms which, in actuality, are not pathogenic to snakes. They are often misdiagnosed as some type of pinworm that can cause disease in snakes and mistakenly treated.
Far and away the best thing to do is to always feed frozen/thawed mice and rats which have been frozen for a minimum of three weeks.
