I just adopted a dog not too long ago. He has been through 3 homes before mine, so I am unsure of his origins. His most recent owners told me that he was a toy American Eskimo, and the copy of his vet records had Pomeranian printed on them, with /toy American Eskimo written beside it in pen. Since they lied about his being neutered and completely UTD on shots, I asked for a faxed copy of the vet records...they looked a bit different (the other copy was really an exam check-up sheet) and only said Pomeranian. He does meet the breed standards for a toy eskie...he weighs about 12 lbs and is about 10-11 inches tall. He has a bit of cream color on his top coat (which AKC standards says is acceptable). Anyway, I am not looking to show/breed this dog, but I am extremely curious as to whether he is a toy eskie, a pomeranian, or a mix of the two. I have looked at pictures of both breeds and have found pictures from both that look exactly like him and pictures from both that look completely different. Any opinion would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yes! I would say he a Toy Ameican Eskimo. While the rough around his neck may give an appearance of a Pomeranian, Eskie's also have a very full coat. A friend of mine has a Toy Eskie and there's no mistaken that cute little face!!

Without actual knowledge from the breeder of this dog, knowing the true answer to your question would be difficult. Pomeranians and toy american eskimo dogs look fairly similar especially if you are looking at dogs that don't exactly meet the breed specifications. If the patellas are bad, I'd say it gives you a real clue there's pomeranian in the line.
