Gladly Gunner our 9 month old GSD hasn't had the runs in a couple of weeks, but ever since his neutering surgery he is defacating in the house!! Yesterday he looked right at me upstairs in the hallway and just squatted right there!! I am at my wits end as he is huge and so is everything else that comes out of him. Does anyone have any suggestions? He NEVER did this before the neutering. I hope we did the right thing, as I just can't have this going on in my house. He has the run of the house right now, but he may be going back into the crate when I cannot keep an eye on him every minute. Any help would be appreciated. Is there anything I can put on the carpet??
Thanks!
Lisa

Sometimes stomaches get upset from the drugs dogs get put on for these procedures. I understand the frustration, but don't be too hard on him just yet.

Definately crate the dog so the accidents don't become a habit. Being out of the crate is a privaledge and one that is earned.

Then, you may want to get some probiotics to help his stomach.

Also, never reprimand a dog for going in the house. It can make the situation worse because anxiety builds and the act becomes a response to stress. Instead, go back to puppy 101 and praise lavishly for going outside.

Also, is the dog fed on a regular schedule? If you free feed, that will also contribute to the problems you are seeing.

Hi Chelle,
Thanks for the help. I had actually gone back to puppy101 with the treats in my pocket at potty time. Seems so funny because Gunner is almost 100 pounds, but still a big baby I know. Things have been much better these last couple of days. I did purchase the Natures Miracle that "ma" suggested, but a little too early to see if it has removed the smell. Hopefully he is back on track.
Thanks again
Lisa

My dog had the runs for a few months after her spay surgery. She went through all kinds of testing, and I put her on a special diet of chicken and rice the whole time. Turns out, she needed more fiber, and canned pumpkin cured her. But she didn't go in the house. . . .

As Chelle suggests, I'd try crating, feeding on a particular schedule, and also walking on a particular schedule. You can use Nature's Miracle to clean up the mess in the house. I've only used it on pee, so I don't know how it works on fecal matter.
