I have a 2 1/2 year old PitSenji (Pit Bull/Basenji mix) who is *very* chewy, and of course, very strong. Every toy I give him just ends up as trash as he destroys them. Are there durable toys for dogs that are strong chewers?
Thanx!

One toy that comes to mind is the Kong. It is a very hard very durable rubber toy. You can even insert some of his favorite treats mixed with some peanut butter into the hole to keep him extra busy.

If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went.

I agree with Bob about the kong. I have a small one for my Shih Tzu and give it to her each morning after we get back from our walk. I usually fill it with peanut butter. She loves it and it keeps her busy for a few minutes.
I also have a plastic plastic cube which has an opening in it. You can put small treats in that and they bat it around until they get all the treats out. Katie has that down to a science now and can empty that in a couple of minutes as well. Sometimes I break off a larger than usualy piece and that may take her twenty minutes to get but she stays with it.

and a delicate constitution! Can't fill it with peanut butter!!! But I do fill it with crunchy treats that take him a while to get out.
Are there other toys he can play with? He's not much of a fetcher, so he doesn't play with a ball very much. The only other toy he has is a natural bone, which he chews on (very loudly!) at night.
My concern was that he didn't have enough variety of toys, with only a bone, an ignored ball, and a Kong. I was wondering if he needs more toys? My cats certainly have a lot!
Thanx!

I am so sorry! I cant believe I missed this one.
Bullies chewing tenacity is INSANE. A few things to try rather than peanut butter. Cheese Whiz.
cooked oatmeal, canned dog food. Freeze them and the treat will last longer.
All can be frozen and fabu to keep them busy.
Raw meaty bones in appropriate sizes.
Nylabone, gallelio size. Biggest and badest that you can get.
Be sure when introducing new toys to do it under supervision regularly. There are really few toys that can handle powerful chewers. Unfortunately most toys are made to be very disposable.

AWESOME!!!! I'll try the canned dog food. He might like that a lot, since he gets dry food as a rule.
Speaking of dry food, he loves to eat ice cubes. Will this increase his water intake enough? I give him ice a lot as a reward since he loves it, it does give him a bit more water, and is calorie and fat free.
Thanx!!!!!!
