Dog not eating his dry food

sunnyjim Aug 08, 2007 05:31 AM

Hi,

I am having problems with my doberman not eating his dry food. I think it is because he stopped eating properly for a few days and then we began to mix other things into his food. (i.e some meat, table scraps e.t.c). The other reason was to make his food more enjoyable to eat. Now he does not eat his dry food. He just leaves it. On the odd occasion he will eat it but he will only end up eating one meal throughout the day rather than the 2 he needs. What should i do?

Thanks.

How old is your Dobe? Is there anything medically wrong that would have stopped him from eating? Is he still drinking water? Adding the additional food may make the situation worse. Does he have a favorite treat or biscuit that you can crumble into the food?

Dub pulled that "i refuse to eat plain dry food" bit when he was about 14 months old. His daddy had been sneaking delicious cheesy doritos into his food bowl. *ahem*

After about 3 days of him refusing to eat dog food, but still very interested in our food, I got some doggie gravy. It wasn't Iams brand, but something else. Anyway, a tablespoon of that in every bowl was all it took for him to think it was "special". Now that we're more active (doubly so since the puppy arrived), I feed Honest Kitchen's Force in addition to his kibble. Now he definitely won't eat plain dry food anymore.
