renal disease in beagle mix

ncat Aug 09, 2007 06:28 PM

MY sisters' beloved 9 year old beagle was diagnosed with kidney disease 2 weeks ago. He went to the vet with vomitting/diarhea and a "senior wellness blood test" showed an elevated creatinine. Initially he was given subcu fluids and sent home on several meds. He continued to vomit and was lethargic and spent 3 more days at the vet. He has been home for 5 days now on daily subcu IV fluids and several meds. He is lethargic and refuses to eat during the day (he always overate).
after getting the fluids he perks up and eats a little. He is scheduled to see the vet on Tuesday. My sister has noted that his vision seems poor and that he has started growling at several people. Has anyone had experience with this?

I'm so sorry to read this. I had a beagle for sixteen years. They're a wonderful dog. I have no experience with this but perhaps someone will have some information for you. I wish your sister's beagle the very best.
