Inherited a Bullmastiff

Asti13 Aug 20, 2007 03:07 PM

I have been reading these forums for a while now, however, I never imagined that I would be here in the Mastiff boards talking about my very own Bullmastiff - Max - who is just over a year old. A relative passed away suddenly and he always asked my husband to take care of his dog if anything every happened to him ... so here I am. Any advice and guidance from experienced Bullmastiff owners would be appreciated. Once he and our 9 year old Black Lab settled down, things got a lot better. He learns very fast and has fit into the family much better than expected. Once I figure out how to post a picture I will.

Sounds like you have found a great new companion. Good luck to you on this new adventure. I'm sure some mastiff people will be able to answer all your questions.

My main concern at this point is how Max is playing with our 9 year old Lab, Remo. Max gets so excited to play, but he is so strong he sometimes overwhelms Remo and hurts him. A couple of times I have had to pull him away and he is very determined not to stop. He likes to bite Remo on the neck ... he pulls on his skin. Any advice?

We are going to have Max neutered and when he heals we are going to take him to Obedience classes.
